GoldLink connects progressive rap styles with cutting edge dance music. He bridges the electronic DJ culture with hip hop in a way we haven’t heard before… to move hip hop forward in new, unexpected ways.” –Rick Rubin tells vsco

To say GoldLink is a new up-and-coming artist, is somewhat of an understatement. The Washington D.C. native, only at the tender age of just 22, already has the musical resume (and mentor), if you will, of a hip-hop heavyweight much older. His debut mixtape, The God Complex, had only nine tracks and concluded in 26 minutes. Although this mixtape was short, and GoldLink was basically unheard of  at this time, his eclectic use of music and beats (gospel, go-go, bachata, house, edm, etc.), and unfiltered, yet, smooth and spunky raps, brought him front and center in the music world. GoldLink referred to his sound during this time as, “futuristic bounce”.

After dropping his debut album, And After That, We Didn’t Talk, GoldLink describes this album as a sort of “prequel” to The God Complex. On his debut mixtape, he says his lyrics were “bragadocious and bold,” and with AATWDT, he’s speaking about the time during his life before TGC. What’s different on this album, is that GoldLink not only raps, but opens up a whole new bracket with his singing. Def Jam founder (the head honcho, the G.O.A.T., the VISIONARY, the #1 person you want to work with in music), Rick Rubin, was GoldLink’s mentor on this debut album. GoldLink says that Rubin “has opened the floodgates of creativity so wide”.

After not only headlining his own tour in 2015, he also toured alongside SBTRKT, Kaytranada and Mac Miller, and he’s now returning to Los Angeles to play at The Fonda Theatre on February 26th, 2016. We are giving away ONE pair of tickets to the luckiest winner!
